Seoul Says It Had No Warning Before Trump Ordered Cuts to Joint Military Drills
South Korea's Foreign Minister Cho Hyun told a parliamentary hearing that neither Seoul nor Washington officials knew in advance about Trump's order to scale back joint exercises.
SEOUL, Aug 19 (Reuters) - South Korea's Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said at a parliamentary hearing in Seoul on Wednesday that neither South Korean nor U.S. officials had been aware in advance of President Donald Trump's order to scale back joint military drills.
"Our government officials, of course, and the U.S. government officials hadn't known about it in advance," Cho said, when asked by a lawmaker if Seoul had been informed about Trump's plans to reduce the joint military exercises.
